March in Solidarity with Immigrants & Refugees Success!!!

We would also like to thank all of you for coming out and participating in the march in solidarity with immigrants and refugees this past Monday! Over 150 people marched in the streets of community and sent a clear message that we want a CLEAN Dream Act, TPS reinstated, and we do not want county and city resources going to support any immigration enforcement. A special thanks to our friends, New York Immigration Coalition, New York Civil Liberties Union, Black Lives Matter Syracuse, CNY Solidarity Coalition and the Syracuse Peace Council.  Check out some of the news coverage of the march!

Keep Telling Democrats that it’s time to FIGHT for Dreamers!!

In December, Senate Democrats passed up TWO big chances to use their leverage to pass a clean DREAM Act by withholding their votes on a pair of spending bills. Sen. Gillibrand stood strong and withheld her vote, but Sen. Schumer did not. (More details here.) In 2018, there are no more excuses. The next spending bill vote is January 19. Please call Sen. Schumer today and urge him to withhold his vote for the spending bill unless it includes a clean DREAM Act. Sen. Schumer is at 202-224-6542 or 315-423-5471.

No Dream, No deal! Last push for a Clean Dream Act! 12/22

Let’s canvass Katko’s neighborhood!

Now that DACA has ended, we need a solution urgently, and we are demanding that our elected officials include the Clean Dream Act in the spending budget before going home for the holidays.
It is absolutely critical that Congress passes a Clean Dream Act! Let’s ask Katko to keep his promise to ensure a solution for our undocumented brothers and sisters by the end of the year.

We will meet at the WCCNY office and drive to Camilus together to drop off some lawn signs!!

Empty chairs at the dinner table: Undocumented Thanksgiving 11/21

Immigrant community and supporters of a Clean Dream Act and farmworkers rights will gather around a table with empty chairs representing the tens of thousands of families across the country who will be missing loved ones because their families have been ripped apart by deportation and a broken immigration system.

We will gather in front of Congressman John Katko’s office in Syracuse to demand he supports a Clean Dream Act and speak up for farmworkers rights.

Each day from now until March 5, 2018, approximately 122 people will lose their DACA protection. Congressman Katko, the time to take action is NOW.

In New York thousands of farmworkers work long hours to bring food to the table. We will give them thanks and speak up for their right to dignified working conditions and against an expansion of the H2A program. Farmworkers need protection from racist immigration enforcement not indented servitude kind of programs like H2A.

United We Dream and Workers’ Center of CNY organize with the support of local Central NY organizations.

Civil Disobedience Training 11/20

On Monday, Nov. 20th at 5pm at University United Methodist Church, we will be having a civil disobedience training and we will continue preparing for the action on the following day. While we will not be engaging in civil disobedience at this particular action, it is a tactic we might use later on in the struggle for immigrants rights here in Central New York and of course, it never hurts to be prepared! Please join us Monday evening! For more info: nslade@workerscentercny.org
