Here is some information about an upcoming volunteer opportunity for those with Spanish language skills! Please consider volunteering some of your time and/or passing this information along to others in your organizations and communities.
We are looking for Spanish speaking volunteers for an immigration clinic on Saturday, April 11, 2015 from noon – 4pm. The clinic will take place at Catholic Charities Refugee Resettlement Program, CYO Building, 529 North Salina St., Syracuse, NY.
The clinic will be to educate and screen people for the Deferred Action programs that President Obama announced in November 2014. The clinic will begin with a powerpoint presentation given in both English and Spanish to inform the audience about who will qualify for the relief once it goes into effect. Then each person will be given the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a screener to see if they have the necessary documents.
We are seeking Spanish speaking volunteers (law students, undergraduates, community members, etc.) to act as these screeners. We will train you on how to conduct the screening. Your Spanish doesn’t have to be perfect, just conversational.
We will also have immigration attorneys available on site to consult with clients who have difficult cases.
These Clinics have been offered in the Finger Lakes region by Legal Aid of Rochester, and between 30- 100 clients have come to each session, so we anticipate this being a busy day!
Please contact Sally Curran as soon as possible if you are interested in volunteering. email@example.com
